Media paper 2 mock exam - Learner response

Paper 2 mock exam: Learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).

Marks: 45/84 Grade: C

WWW: Good attention on audience uses and gratifications, Good knowledge of CSP and detailed explanations of the CSP .

EBI: More detailed analysis of GQ with specific examples, Consider how products do not convey ideologies eg genre, escapism etc, revise regulation, especially for PSBs! Make ethical reference to "cultural codes"

2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for A Level Media in this paper? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in Paper 2?

I achieved a C which is one below my target grade (a B), To achieve a grade B I needed 6 more marks to achieve that. If I had done better on question 2 I believe I may have achieved that.

These are the grade boundaries we've used, based on real AQA exam grade boundaries (out of 84):

A* = 70; A = 62; B = 51; C = 40; D = 30; E = 20.

Now read through the real AQA mark scheme for Paper 2

3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:

For question 1, I have achieved 7 marks out of 9. I had missed making explicit reference to "cultural codes"
talking about gender and specific points about Figure 1 that will push me to marks 8 or 9.

For question 2, I have achieved 6 marks out of 25. I had missed regulation , especially for PSBs. The BBC remitted by OFCOM and the global nature of the TV industry. Such as the objectives of the media companies and what's good for audiences.

For question 3, I have achieved 16 marks out of 25, I had missed considering how products do not convey ideologies eg. Genre, escapism, etc.

For question 4, I have achieved 16 marks out of 25, although I paid good attention on audience uses and gratifications. What I had missed was a more detailed analysis of GQ with specific examples.

Example: Q2: 13/25 marks
Additional points: I didn't focus on the question - validity of theory. I should have...

4) Look at question 4 - the synoptic question. How many of the four key concepts did you cover in your answer? Write a new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and taking care to include at least three of Language - Representations - Audience - Industries. You can use bullet points but make sure you offer enough content to meet the criteria for Level 5 (top level). This will be somewhere between 3-4 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.

I have covered very well on audience uses and gratifications. I need a bit more on industries especially on PRINT. Talking about print was a very good way to pick up marks on the question. Need more on language. I covered representation well. It could also do better with more structure as well. Just going into the question isn't enough I need to do better.

Plan:

Answer the Question

GQ- Mainstream? or specialised? Increasingly targeted more specialised online : social media websites, global editions etc The director " Will Welch" represents new masculinity using "Pharallel Williams" or " Robert Pattinson" on the art and culture addition. Demographics/physcographics

Gentlewoman-  Talk more about print. How many issues its design to attract a certain audience.

5) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your Easter Media revision timetable.

Industry. Magazines. Capital or Deutschland 83. Regulation. Sims Freeplay perhaps these are some I will prioritise for my revision
